Who looks back at you in the mirror?

Here we are, February 2021! So let me ask you a question. How did your January go?

As I do my month end review and plan for the upcoming month, or course the first think I look at is the number on the scale? Did I hit my goal? I mean what exactly was my goal anyway?

At my age, 58 in one week, I am kind of over New Years resolutions. Especially the “this is the year I buckle down on my diet” goals. I mean, let’s face it, if the conversation in my head was that simple, I could handle it. But that is not how it usually goes. My self-talk is usually much more self-deprecating. You know, the “Oh my god, you are STILL trying to lose weight?!?” “When are you going to get your shit together Kim?” I could fill this blog post with so many unanswered questions such as those. But how helpful would that be?

Thoughts around my weight have followed me my entire life. My success in life, measured by the size of the pants I am wearing and/or the number flashing back at me from the scale. And sadder then all this is that I know I am not alone.

This is exactly how the diet industry has created us to think. Skinny sells! But if diets really worked, would they be a billion dollar industry? Would Weight Watchers (now WW) have to re-create its branding every 5 yrs. or so to make it look sexier? Keto, Whole30, Paleo, Atkins, Nutri Systems, and countless others all have their hands out to show us the way to lasting happiness, contentment, peace. But I ask you my friend, what if they are all wrong? What if the right way is a journey that you can’t pay someone to take for you?

You can’t put a price tag on self-worth. On self-acceptance. On finding that place of belonging. In fact, it isn’t something you can even purchase. And I am going to make a very bold statement here; none of those things have anything to do with what you look like on the outside!

So this month, February, I am going to be talking about self-love. So let’s be our own special Valentine and even buy ourselves chocolates if that is what we want! Let’s treat ourselves like the queens we are. It’s time to Rise Up my friends. Time to stop living small lives!

To quote Jay Shetty, “We think we have to become something else to be satisfied, not realizing that being ourselves is the only thing that can satisfy.”

So join me on this journey to self. Regardless of the size pants you are wearing. Discover the greatness that each one of us was created for and believe it is possible! Because it is!
